About this restaurant
Kitsch posters of palm trees and sunsets adorn the blue and yellow walls. An oil-black bar and three skai stools occupy the center of the room. Behind, jars of fermented fruit and vegetables rest a wooden cheetah statue and a large terracotta pot. A few cacti scattered here and there recall memories of South America. The high tables and chairs are deliberately mismatched. Small wooden tables sit alongside colorfully patterned fabric benches. There are beaded curtains in front of the toilet door, where a Virgin hand-painted on the ceramics on the wall pulls out all the stops. The decor is deceptively indolent, but we love it. Only here, we have the sensation of plunging into a real Mexican street cantina. Easy, Amandine, the woman behind the concept, has lived in Mexico for years, and had already opened two restaurants there.

La cuisine était authentique et délicieuse....

La cuisine était authentique et délicieuse. L'ambiance était sympathique et le service aimable et efficace. Tout ça et à un prix très abordable. Je retournerai.

Starters: Very small portions for quite a high...

Starters: Very small portions for quite a high price. Main Dishes: Tried the pastor and Angus beef — both were dry and lacked juiciness. Guacamole: Tasted industrial, not fresh. Horchata & Totopos: Both were excellent — definitely the highlights of the meal. Dessert: Didn’t try it, but saw it on a neighboring table. Looked similar to the starters: tiny portions, steep price. Venue: Nicely decorated and pleasant atmosphere. Beans with feta: Odd choice. Why not go with traditional frijoles refritos? I don’t recall ever being served plain beans like that in Mexico. I came in hopeful, especially after reading the reviews, but in the end, it felt like just another Tex-Mex spot with a touch of international fusion. Maybe that was the concept all along — and it’s on me for expecting something closer to authentic Mexican food like you can easily find in Spain, Berlin, and a few other places across Europe… just not in Belgium, it seems.

C'était excellent et carrément authentique!...

C'était excellent et carrément authentique! Enfin un restaurant à Bruxelles qui me rappelle la nourriture du Mexique. Les frijoles, la barbacoa, le guacamole, un vrai délice et des saveurs qui nous ramènent au zocalo, une vraie Madeleine de Proust. Le cadre est aussi imprégnant que ce que l'on mange et le service ultra rapide et efficace. Un tout petit bémol: c'est assez bruyant mais ça, aussi, rajoute une touche d'authenticité :)
