About this restaurant
The Wedelse Molen is a water mill, located in the municipality of Pelt, on the river De Dommel. The name "Wedelse" refers to a watery area after a flood. The history of the mill is said to go back to the 8th century according to some sources. Possibly the mill is the oldest water mill on the Dommel, probably even the oldest in the entire Benelux.
Protected monument
In 1259, the mill was sold by the likes of Arnold IV of Loon to the abbey of Floreffe. In 756, the mill was rebuilt. On this occasion, the clay mill house was replaced by the current stone building. In 1953 the Breugelweg was widened, causing the loss of the bakery, and in 1955 the wooden mill wheel was replaced by a metal one. Until 957 the mill was in operation. In 1974 the tavern was set up in the mill. The banks of the Dommel at the mill were reinforced in 1994. In 1995, the mill including the lock work and the bank establishment was solemnly commissioned as a protected monument.
