About this restaurant
In the heart of Antwerp, on Suikerrui near the Cathedral and the Scheldt is Restaurant Maritime. This restaurant has been a household name in the city since 1958. Mussels and fish are the specialty of this classic and atmospheric restaurant. A warm welcome and impeccable service is invariably on the menu. Our wine list offers you an extensive choice of wines that pair perfectly with Seafood. Burgundy is our coup de coeur, but Bordeaux, Tuscany and Spain are also widely represented.
The emphasis is on wines that match with seafood.
Everything started with Christiane Van de Voorde when she took over the then Café Maritime at the age of 26. As a "joeng maske," this was not obvious at the time. It wasn't long before half the chickens and jars of mussels were flying over the counter. Most customers came directly from the Flandria boats back then. They were brought in by buses. The place was sometimes so full that the plates and pots were passed by the customers to the next table.
Later, the business was continued by sons Guy and Marc Weeda. Guy, by the way, introduced Burgundy wines to Maritime. During his years in hotel school, Glen Weeda, Guy's son and thus the third generation was already working in the restaurant. At the age of 30, he took over the business. Later, Ken Weeda, Glen's brother joined the team.
In early 2024, the restaurant came into the hands of Serge Verboven and Helena De Ridder, who together already run the Antwerp classics Au Vieux Port and Marcel.
Our maître Johan, who has been the face of Maritime for many years welcomes you together with an enthusiastic team to spoil your taste buds.
